The 42 Acres Fund Request Update

July 15, 2019

Fellow Grand Beach Residents,

The Village of Grand Beach received a $2,400,000 state grant for the acreage referred to as the 42 Acres, which includes the driving range, pond and wooded area. There are plant species that are rare to our area and normally found only in East Coast Plain Marshes. The 42 Acres has been accessed by villagers for many years thanks to the agreement we have had with Grand Beach Land Development and is the only open area left that isn't being broken up into lots for more building sites.

We are getting closer to our 25% matching funds requirement of $800,000, but still have a long way to go. With a donation of 10% of the land value from Grand Beach Land Development, a matching funds grant from The Pokagon Fund in the amount of $58,000 from our municipal funds and donations from residents totaling $199,103 we still need to raise an additional $230,897. Let’s go Grand Beach! We can do this!

Please send your donations in by July 31, 2019 so that we know where we stand when it is time to sign an agreement with the State of Michigan to accept the grant.

The Village of Grand Beach is a tax qualified entity under the laws of the State of Michigan, and this donation may qualify for a tax deduction, but it is always wise to talk to your tax consultant as tax guidelines continue to change.

This will be our only chance to preserve an area that is rich in wildlife and vegetation that we, as residents, have enjoyed for generations. We can’t always count on the use of our beaches, but we can ensure that future generations get to enjoy this beautiful acreage and driving range.

Checks should be made payable to the Village of Grand Beach and dropped off at the Clerk’s office or mailed to 48200 Perkins Blvd., Grand Beach, MI 49117.

Thank you to all who have donated and to those that will be submitting future donations.

Sincerely,

Debbie Lindley
